Paper Plates....

Wow!  It's been awhile!  I guess you could say that teaching a World Language in Washington Township keeps you hoppin'!  Lot's of great things have been going on in the World of Languages at NCHS!!  In my last blog post I had a picture of hands and paper plates!  So, how many ways can these two images be used to learn a language?  Paper plates come in handy for me in my food unit as a visual aid ( the visual reminds the student how he/she gets to the restaurant, what meal they are eating, and what is ordered for a main dish, beverage and dessert) to student interviews I conduct about favorite restaurants they have for going out to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner!

I have also started a new tradition with paper plates in my classes this school year.  NCHS is fond of its Paper Plate Awards; so a few Fridays back I gave the first set of paper plate awards.  In turn, those students had to award someone in class a paper plate for a reason - positive of course - of their choosing the following Friday!  And so the tradition continues!  It has been received with applause and smiles so far!

Hands!  Dame cince - gimme five!  When I mention hands...and fingers, students know we are going to be talking grammar!  Each hand represents a different who and a different verb spelling!  Keep in mind, I just have first year classes so it is pretty basic.  And yes, I leave out vosotros....maybe if we were aliens there would be a sixth finger...but that is just not the case!

So, how do you use paper plate, hands...or any other image to help students learn?  Inquiring minds want to know!!
