A picture is worth a thousand words
Even the over-achieving Washington Township World Language Student does not have time to learn...let alone memorize a thousand words! But there are times when using vocabulary not found on the current list is required in order to communicate. Yes, students can learn formal commands by filling in the blanks! But demonstrating that knowledge through a cook show makes it real! Reading a play facilitates cultural understandings! But acting it out brings it to life! That visual stimulus in the language classroom helps fill in the missing "vocabulary" pieces and is a very powerful learning tool! And, let's face it...makes learning and teaching fun!
